GREENWAY

The Coastal Greenway runs between Oropesa del Mar and Benicàssim, passing along the old railway line of the train that used to run along the coast between the two towns. Almost 6 kilometres long (5.5 km of which lie within Oropesa's municipal boundaries), it's suitable for both cyclists and pedestrians (including people with reduced mobility), as it's surfaced with asphalt along some stretches and with compacted gravel along others. From Oropesa del Mar it is accessed via Calle Tramontana, at La Concha beach, while from Benicàssim it can be reached via Calle El Palassiet, next to Voramar beach. You can also get there using public transport, taking the Castellón-Oropesa-Castellón bus route, getting off at La Concha beach (500 metres away from the access point) or at the Les Platgetes estate (1 km away from the Benicàssim starting point). It passes through natural beauty spots of great environmental importance, such as the surroundings of Mount Bovalar (with its indigenous vegetation and Mediterranean pines), the coves and rock pools at La Renegà beach and the area around Les Platgetes de Bellver. DIVING

The calm waters of Oropesa del Mar make diving off its coast a unique experience. The craggy cliffs of Cabo de Oropesa and the coves of El Retor cove and Oropesa la Vella cove are among the most beautiful spots for diving. Furthermore, in the southern part of the locality, away from hustle and bustle of the town, you'll find La Renegà beach, a unique enclave of crystalline waters and rocky silhouettes that remain untouched by human hands. Whether you're a seasoned diver or a first-timer, Oropesa del Mar offers you a wide variety of submarine landscapes to discover. Likewise, if snorkelling is your thing, come and have a go at it here – you won't regret it!

SAILING

If sailing is your passion, you'll love sailing across the waters of Oropesa del Mar. Enjoy the Mediterranean breeze while you practising your favourite sport. Oropesa Sailing Club's School of Sailing and Windsurfing organises courses for all levels and ages throughout the year. Moreover, you can choose from an endless range of social and cultural activities which will take place at the sea. Yachting enthusiasts and professionals alike meet during the regatta days that take place in Oropesa del Mar's Leisure Port. The main competitions are the Villa de Oropesa Trophy and the San Jaime Regatta, the latter being a qualifier for the Autonomous Community of Valencia Sailing Championship.

HIKING

The superb natural surroundings of Oropesa del Mar provide hiking enthusiasts with numerous options. All along the various paths in the local area, you can gaze upon stunning landscapes where the sea, the mountains, and the orange and almond groves play the starring roles, while also discovering the typical flora and fauna of the region as you wander along each of these wonderful pathways. You can choose from among 5 routes of varying levels of difficulty and length, as well as another 4 alternative routes, which will allow you to discover every last twist and turn of our beauty spots. The route begins at the roundabout on the way into the town as you enter via the N-340 dual carriageway, next to the petrol station. From there, take Avenida Benicàssim, then take the first right and, after walking for about 100 m, turn left just before the bridge. When you reach the crossroads, take the path to the right. COLUMBRETES

The Columbretes Islands nature reserve comprises 4 groups of islands of volcanic origin lying 24 miles off the coast of Castellón. It is classed as a nature reserve because of the great richness of its flora and fauna, as well as the immeasurable beauty of its sea beds. Sea birds such as the Audouin's Gull, the Eleonora's Falcon and the Common Shag inhabit these islands, while in their waters thrive Laminaria algae and red coral, among many other species. The archipelago has a total area of 19 hectares, most of which belong to Illa Grossa, the only inhabited island and the location of the Columbretes lighthouse. La Ferrera, La Foradada and El Carallot form the other island groups. This little Mediterranean paradise lacks any tourist infrastructure, but it's a landmark destination for diving enthusiasts from around the world. The islands can be visited by groups subject to prior agreement, with a boat departing from the port of Castellón.

NATURAL AREAS

Oropesa del Mar's best natural areas include exceptional coastal enclaves such as Orpesa la Vella Cove and El Retor Cove, with sandy beaches and cystal-clear waters protected by beautiful cliffs where you can relax and get away from it all. Another outstanding area are the hills of Serra d'Oropesa, a natural rampart lying towards the west that protects the area from severe weather, offering you winding paths and stunning overviews of the fields of orange trees and other crops that extend around the locality. From here, you can link up with other routes that will lead you to another of the beauty spots that borders Oropesa del Mar – Desert de les Palmes, a vast nature reserve that will reward you with Mediterranean forest landscapes and panoramic picture-postcard views. Finally, there is Monte Bovalar, a hill that gracefully caresses the sea and rises next to the leisure port. On its summit lies El Mirador (the viewpoint), from where you can gaze upon the Columbretes Islands when the sky is clear.

LEISURE PORT

Oropesa del Mar's marina leisure port boasts an onshore area of 62,281 m2, a stretch of water of almost 50,000 m2 and over 700 moorings spread across 7 covered pontoon jetties, thus providing it with all the port, technical and administrative services a sailor would need. In its modern and spacious facilities, there's space for a 10-tonne crane, a 5-tonne forklift truck, a tug and a control tower, as well as a fuelling station, a swimming pool, showers, running water, electricity and laundry facilities, among other services.
